John Molupi from Springs Town Bowling Club has brought another title back to Springs.

Returning from George in the Western Cape, John, who is in the Ekurhuleni team, brought home a gold medal after competing in the Open Man Inter-District Tournament.

The five-day tournament started on March 12 and ended on Friday.

John, whose birthday was on March 12, was thrown a party by his team who celebrated his day and the start of the tournament with him.

There were 20 districts, played in two sections.

The Ekurhuleni team played nine games and faced the Gauteng North team in the finals.

John and his seven team members won the last game 25-16.

“We did very well as a team and won all of our games,” he says.

“I am proud to be able to bring the gold medal to Springs.”

He says this is his first inter-district title.

The rain was heavy during the tournament.

John says they had to play in 34mm of rain at one stage.

“They called us off the field about seven times due to the rain, so we had to start all over again.

“It was very challenging, but we still came out on top.”

John is now preparing for the two-week Nationals tournament, which take place in Port Elizabeth in May.

“Anything can happen. You can’t win all the time and I am okay with that.

“But I am ready and feel confident.”

John is excited about the Protea scouts who will be watching the next tournament and hopes to impress them.
