Ride for Sight cycle race in Boksburg a success

Dis-Chem Ride for Sight cycle race well attended.

The 30th annual Dischem Ride for Sight cycle race went ahead without a hitch on Sunday morning.

The event had over 5 000 participants across various categories.

The Ride For Sight race is in aid of a wonderful cause as it helps Retina South Africa raise funds in a search for a cure to blindness.

The Springs Wheelers Cycling Club was the host club, as they have been for the past 30 years.

Although Springs Wheelers is a relatively small club, the members are tremendously enthusiastic for this is one of the oldest road races in the country.

The members contribute in various disciplines from site manager, drivers of lead vehicles, start pens, route marking and making sure that all finishers get medals.

This year, Carla Oberholzer of team Demacon won the 116km race in a time of 3:14:06.

Oberholzer has been in good form as she also won the SA National Road Championships Road Race in Oudtshoorn last weekend.

In the men’s section, ProTouch’s Reynard Butler won the 116km race in a time of 2:39:54.

This was an important victory for Butler who has played a more supportive role for his team previously.

Butler came fourth in the SA National Road Championships Elite Road Race last weekend.
