Springs Neon Run a very colourful affair

This marks the first year of many to come that Tanya Homem de Gouveia hosted the Springs Neon Run together with Springs Catholic Community.

The first-ever “happiest” fun run, the Springs Neon Run drew participants to St Catherine’s Catholic Church in Selcourt on Saturday for the Springs Free 24Fit Bootcamp and Springs Catholic Community event.

Tanya Homem de Gouveia who organises the Springs Free 24Fit Bootcamp welcomed the crowd. Everyone was in high spirits before the race began at 9am.

Homem de Gouveia says she was given the go-ahead by her church priest Father Lewis Tsuro to host the event as she had always wished to organise one.

“When I told him about my idea, he just agreed instantly. To me it was another wish off my bucket list,” says Homem de Gouveia.

The aim of the Neon Run is to promote health and happiness by bringing communities together.

There was plenty of excitement in the air as participants began arriving to register and collect their participation packs.

The weather turned out to be in everyone’s favour as it was a breezy morning, but the sun shone brightly.

Some ran the route from Selcourt, while others took a slower-paced stroll, enjoying a lovely Saturday all the way to Our Lady Of Mercy Catholic Church.

The event was a great success and loads of fun was had by all who attended, including Father Tsuro.

“It was a great fun walk and I’m definitely hoping to attend another next year,” he said.

The theme of the run was “Fun, bright and colourful” to celebrate the beginning of spring.

Most friends and families arrived all dressed up in bandanas, leggings, tutus with funky hairstyles and wigs, and face paint that suited the theme.

Homem de Gouveia says she plans to host a second run next year.
