Golf stars in the making

Johannes Geldenhuys Golf Academy hosted a golf day at the Springs Country Club on Thursday.

Thirty-four junior golfers participated in one, four and nine hole games.

“The nine holes are for the older, better players while the younger golfers played one or four holes,” Johannes says.

The academy also hosted a golf clinic in the first and second week of the school holidays.

“About 70 children participated in the clinics and we also had a dad and son golf day recently which saw fathers enjoyed a day of golfing with their sons.

“I am very proud of my players and I think they are all winners, but as any game goes, someone has to place first,” he says.

Derick Carstens (10) was the boys winner of the four hole golfing challenge.

The girl winner of the four hole golf challenge was Abby Grundling (8).

Joshua van Zyl (14) took first place in the nine hole challenge with 40 shots.

Addressing his students, Johannes says putting is one of the most important aspects of golf and adds he will be giving them more in-depth training in putting.
