Kickboxers selected for President’s National team

Three kickboxing students from the XT Springs Kickboxing Club under coach Rina Labuschagne were selected for the President’s National team.

Green belt Willie Horn (15) won his division (u-52kg) and his first SA full contact fight at the SA Championships.

Willie has been training with Rina for six years and usually fought in the semi and light kickboxing division.

He will fight in the junior championships next year.

“Willie always used to be in one of the top three spots during his semi and light contact kickboxing fights,” says Rina.

Blue belt Devante Singh (22) won his full contact fighting division (u-60kg) at the SA Championships.

“Devante has been training with me for 12 years and has always been a full contact fighter, but did take part in semi and light contact fights.”

Rina says he was a medallist at the SA Championships in semi, light and full contact fights.

Warren de Beer (42) has been selected for the u-84kg division in semi and light contact fighting.

He has been training with Rina for 11 years and always did full contact fighting up to the age of 40, after which he was no longer allowed to fight full contact.

“He always used to place in the top three with full contact and was SA champ in full contact in 2012,” explains Rina.

“Warren does really well in semi and light contact and always receives a medal.”

Warren and Devante will participate in the World Association of Kickboxing Organisation (Wako) World Championships in Hungary, Budapest from September 4 to 12.

Rina says anyone who is interested in sponsoring the club may contact her on 072 515 5927.
