Boxers chosen for Ekurhuleni team

The Bert Collins Boxing Club hosted a Gauteng Development Tournament on Saturday.

Three boxers from the club participated among fighters from different clubs from all over Gauteng.

Clayton ‘Claytoon’ Meyer (12) fought against a boxer from the HTS-Tuine Club in Pretoria.

Jeanette Deysel, one of the coaches, says Clayton fought an impressive match.

“Unfortunately, he lost the first round, but came back with vigour and scored enough points during rounds two and three that he won according to a 2 – 1 judges decision,” she says.

Dmitri Annandale (12) fought another fighter from the HTS-Tuine Club in Pretoria.

According to Jeanette, Dmitri’s opponent was too strong and the match came to a halt following a RSC (refstop contest).

The third Bert Collins boxer, Adriaan Colyn (14) faced a boxer from the Sunrise Boxing Club in Alberton.

“Adriaan fought very well and came through at the end, fighting with passion and landing the win with a 3 – 0 judges’ decision,” says Jeanette.

Adriaan, Clayton and Minnet Dicks were chosen for the Ekurhuleni school age boxing team and will represent Ekurhuleni at the Gauteng Championship Boxing Tournament.

Geanne Dicks was chosen at the Ekurhuleni Championship in Boksburg two weeks ago for the Ekurhuleni junior team.

Veronica Meyer and Freddie Dicks were chosen as coaches for the Ekurhuleni junior team while Jeanette was chosen as head coach.

“With Saturday’s tournament, our boxers again showed their excellent level of fitness of which we are very proud,” says Jeanette.
