Young Stars’ cricket successes

Bakerton Young Stars Cricket Club (BYSCC) held their second junior cricket awards ceremony on Saturday.

The event was held at the Springs Secondary School hall in Bakerton.

The awards ceremony was a celebration of the achievements of the junior cricket team under the wing of Bakerton Cricket.

BYSCC chairman Himmat Parbhoo says one promising achievement of the season was the joining together of a new group of u-8 players, who performed admirably in their first season as a team.

“It was encouraging to see the performance of the team improving from game to game,” he says.

The u-10 and u-12 teams successfully managed to achieve top-3 finishes in their respective leagues, with a number of players being invited for Eastern Junior Trials towards the end of the summer.

The following players were recognised for their top performances throughout the season:

U-10 team – Gulam Mohammed Badigar was the best batsman.

Parbhoo says Yusul Teladia played extremely well and was acknowledged as the best bowler and player of the season.

Hamza Teladia was honoured for his outstanding performance while Keshan Naidoo was announced as the most improved player.

The best fielders were Mohammed Ali Bhorat and Rohan Bodalina.

The top performers in the u-12 team were Mohammed Saged, Sahil Parbhoo and Hanzala Bemat.

Huzaifa Bhula was the most improved bowler while Rihan Patel was the most improved batsman.

Announced as the best fielders were Khelan Lala and Rohan Bodalina.

Parbhoo says the players are continuously improving on their skills and knowledge of the game of cricket.

“It is only through the support and encouragement of the parents where the players can achieve success and growth,” he says.

He encouraged the parents to get more involved in their support of the players, team and club in the coming season, which can only lead to further growth and success and acknowledgement.

Parbhoo thanked the coaches and support staff for their time and efforts in preparing the boys for the games throughout the season.
