Springs rugby team beats Brakpan 23-17

It was another successful rugby weekend for the first Springs Rugby Club team, which played against Brakpan on Saturday.

Coach Ockert Brits says both his team and the other played very well although it was a nail-biting game.

Springs’ game plan was to attack immediately and keep possession of the ball as much as possible.

Brits says their plan worked quite well and Kazlo Holtzhausen put the first points on the scoreboard with a penalty, leaving Springs to lead 3-0.

Shortly thereafter Brakpan succeeded with a penalty goal, leaving an equal 3-3 score.

Giving the spectators their money’s worth, Innus Entertainment scored Springs’ first try.

Brakpan scored another penalty and the score changed to 10-6.

The Brakpan team fought back and scored a try and two penalties, followed by two penalty attempts by Springs, shortly before the end of the first half, leaving the field with a 17-16 score in Brakpan’s favour.

Brits says Springs adhered to the game plan and used an offensive tactic.

After the break, Francois Prinsloo scored a splendid try under the poles and Springs won the game 23-17.

“It is the first time since 2014 Brakpan was defeated on their home ground and ironically it had to be Springs,” says Brits.

He says Gerhard Jordaan and Francois Prinsloo played exceptional games.

The second and u-21 teams lost their games.

The scores were not available at the time of publishing.
