Eastern Nomads golf day

Easterns Nomads will assist Hospice East Rand with a funded project at the Springs Country Club on June 3.

A Memorial Day will be held as well, to remember the many Nomads who have gone before, since the organisation was founded in 1961.

Laura Kirsten from Hospice says they are planning a golf day at Springs Country Club to raise funds.

All players are requested to bring any unwanted goods to be sold in the Hospice charity shop in Selcourt.

“We have many nursing sisters who care for patients in their homes in the whole of Ekurhuleni,” she says.

Nomads Golf appears to many outsiders as a fund-raising organisation and while that is high on the list of priorities it is not the main reason for their existence, even though they have topped R36-million in total donations to charity.

Another of their objectives is the furtherance of golf – so, each year they donate considerable sums to those courses which may need some assistance.

These funds are generated by Nomads members volunteering to help at Sunshine/European professional tour events with the scoring.

The furtherance of golf funding has been extensively used in SA for junior golf and has produced the likes of Ernie Els, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Brandon Grace, Retief Goosen and most of the current young professional players.

Gary Player is an honorary member of Nomads.

“We have decided to hold the day with Hospice as the beneficiary as so many of our members and their families have passed through their hands,” says Kirsten.
