McKenzie wins January’s Ginger tournament

The Gingers Day, a monthly golf challenge between friends, was played at Pollak Park Golf Club on Saturday.

Bruce McKenzie took first place with 42 points, followed by Tom Scott with 39 points.

Third place saw Trevor Quinn obtaining 37 points.

Nearest the pin was taken by Mike Milton and the longest day was played by Gerhard Stroebel.

“Well played all and thanks for showing such generosity as a group, it makes my participation very worthwhile,” says convener Colin O’Brien.

Brendan Keogh was the overall winner of the finals in December, and although he has fallen ill, he joined the group of golfers for their prize-giving on Saturday after the game.

He was the first winner of the Eric Christy Memorial Trophy.

From January to November the points are accumulated and the top 10 players qualify to play in December for the trophy.

Going into the final in December Brendan was leading and after playing in the final he retained the leading position and was awarded the cup.

“We wish Brendan everything of the best and we will miss him at the monthly games,” says Bruce Gardner, fellow Gingers golfer.
