SOB u-12 soccer team brings home Easterns Cup

Springs Old Boys u-12 soccer team recently played in the Easterns Cup final in Benoni.

The team played against Alberton premier.

SOB was defending more than attacking in the first half with Alberton being the stronger of the two teams.

“Our cheerleaders, the parents, didn’t lose hope as they kept singing, encouraging the boys to press on harder,” says Titi Nkosi, team manager.

At the end of first half the score was still 0-0.

The local team returned to the field more prepared in the second half and quite determined to win the cup.

Coach Ronnie Slava was impressed with the changes made and the chat he had with the boys during half-time.

He was starting to see his boys playing like the league winners that they are. They relaxed and owned the field.

“The boys didn’t give their opponents a chance as they turned the tables, giving Manqoba Magudulela, the goalkeeper, a well-deserved break from the intense defence he endured in the first half,” says Nkosi.

In the first 10 minutes of the second half Lindokuhle ‘Smiley’ Msiza scored the first goal of the day.

“This action surely woke up the parents to sing even louder,” says Nkosi.

With the Alberton team still trying to deal with the first goal, Kamogelo Mokoena scored the second and final goal of the day making sure that SOB won the cup final with a clean 2-0 victory.

Nkosi says she is so proud of the boys and what they have achieved on the field.

“Its been a great season and we appreciate the assistance from the parents and the coach because without them none of this would be possible,” she says.
