Another master’s win for John Molupi

Springs Town Bowling Club member John Molupe (29) is the new Ekurhuleni Bowls Open Masters Singles 2016 champion.

He played 25 ends and beat his opponent, Brian Dickson from Modderfontein, by one shot during the championships held at Edenvale Bowling Club on September 3 and 4.

The championships were played over two days.

John says it was a tough competition but he kept his cool throughout.

This modest bowler is humble about his achievement and aims to play in the SA championships one day.

Ekurhuleni Bowls Association selector Ashley van der Muller says just to be chosen for the Masters competition is a huge achievement.

Ashley says 12 of the top Ekurhuleni bowlers were chosen out of 2 500 bowlers who included John and Emma Ragusa.

They both played six games and Emma managed to win two of the six.

“John played excellent bowls from the start to the final,” says Ashley.

To get to the final John had to play against 12 players.

The 12 players, divided into two sections of six players, playing against each other and the final is played by the two sectional winners.

Ashley says each bowler had to play five games each.

He claims, at the prizegiving ceremony held after the championships, everyone was raving about John’s bowling abilities.

“It was mentioned that John has the brightest future in the history of Ekurhuleni bowls.

Ex-president of Springs Town Bowling Club, Dominico Ragusa says John has a very good but confident attitude on the green.

Izak Hattingh, vice-president of the club says they are extremely proud of John.

“He is the most successful player the club has ever had,” he says.
