Thunder’s exciting three rounds

Local extreme fighting championship (EFC) mixed martial arts fighter, Pietie ‘Thunder’ Coxen (33) beat his opponent Ambamba ‘Robo’ Matala (28) in an EFC 51 fight at Carnival City on Friday evening.

Thunder, an ex-boxer, beat his opponent with a split decision, meaning he won on points.

On Friday he said they will stick to the game plan and that is exactly what they did.

“It was my first three-round fight and I enjoyed every minute of it,” says Thunder.

The lightweight bout between Tumisang ‘The President’ Madiba (27) and Anicet Kanyeba ended in a no contest decision being declared.

Tumisang, an ex-Springs Boys High School pupil recently moved to Cape Town, but is still managed by XKT Pro League’s James Read.

Read says it is unfortunate that an accidental strike ended the fight, but the two fighters will have a rematch in Cape Town soon.

“I am very proud of the fighters and the way they conducted themselves,” he says

We are disappointed that the fight between Jasen ‘Money’ van der Merwe, and his ex-training partner DuHo Kim, didn’t take place.

EFC medical team deemed Kim unable to compete as he is suffering from a lung infection.

“Jasen put in a lot of hard work for this fight,” says James.

Coach JP Kruger, of House of Tinkerbell in Springs, says he is happy with Thunder’s win as he was well prepared for the fight.

“I am sorry that Tumisang’s fight only lasted a few minutes, but it is a contact sport and these things happen,” he adds.
