Eastern’s team represents well in Limpopo

On July 7 it was reported that the u-15 Eastern Gauteng Cricket Club would be heading on a tour to Limpopo to partake in a four-game tournament.

The boys jetted off to Limpopo on July 3 and returned on July 7 to play against its provincial team.

With two of the Eastern’s players being from Springs’ very own Old Boys’ cricket club, the town was well represented all the way in Polokwane.

“The boys did very well and we won all our games,” says Nicolette Meiring, the club’s coordinator.

“We played two 50-over games and two 20-over games.

“We were lucky to win all four games as we had very good competitors so it could have gone either way.”

Day one of the tournament saw the boys play 50 overs.

The boys played two of the 20-over games on day two.

Day three saw the boys play another game of 50 overs.

“The boys worked and played hard while having a great time in Polokwane,” says Nicolette.

“It was an amazing experience to tour with such diversely skilled boys who showed so much character and respect throughout the tournament.”

Team manager Jason Horwell says the boys displayed exemplary teamwork which made the whole management very proud.

“We are really proud of the team for their unbelievable teamwork and spirit,” says Jason.

“The victories were due to the equal contributions from all the boys.”

The top batsmen were Max Meyer, Kane Horwell , Saahil Khan who made 169, 137 and 138 runs respectively.

The top score in an innings was Kane Horwell with 83.

The top bowlers were Saahil Khan with seven wickets, Jayden Snyman with six wickets, and Kabelo Nkosi and Sabelo Selete with four wickets each.

The best bowling in an innings went to Saahil Khan with four wickets for 12 runs.

The team would like to thank the coaches, Petrus (Geco) Mofokeng and Moses Thatelo for sharing their knowledge and passion with the boys in Limpopo.
