Pollak Park and Boys’ High raise funds for Ireland tour

Pollak Park Golf Club held a fund-raising golf day for Springs Boys’ High School’s rugby tour on Saturday.

A group of the school’s senior rugby players are heading to Ireland in October.

The fund-raiser served as a way to raise much-needed funds to go towards the facilitation of the tour.

“The golf day serves as a way for us to raise more money for those players who are unable to afford the total cost of the tour,” says Mark Marais, the team coach and organiser.

“By doing this we are ensuring everyone has the opportunity to partake in the upcoming tour.”

The tour will consist of three matches being played in Dublin, Mulligan and Limerick.

“A lot of the boys may never get a chance to go overseas and this is our way of ensuring they do at least once in their lifetimes,” says Mark.

“So raising these funds is important because we are giving the boys a chance to be exposed to overseas rugby as well as a new wealth of possibilities.”

Mark says the tour was not reserved exclusively for those who could afford its total costs but was open to all senior rugby players.

“We do not believe any child should be left behind simply because they cannot afford to pay the costs of the tour,” he says.

“That is why we are working so hard to ensure everyone has a chance at this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

“We are a team so we are doing this as a team.”

Players who partook in the day’s four-ball alliance games ranged from parents of learners, to club members, and some of the rugby players of the school.

Raffle lists were also petitioned out by learners to try receive donations from all who were present.

“I am happy with the turn-out of the event as well as the support we have received from Pollak Park, parents, and our major sponsor which is a car dealership in Nigel,” adds Mark.

“We are still accepting, and would be very grateful for sponsorships and donations from anyone who would be willing.”
