Lions win Super 16 golf tournament

The Lions golf team performed well at the Super 16 golf tournament.

Several Super 16 golf teams took to the Springs Country Club golf course for the fourth round of the monthly golf challenge on Saturday.

The Lions team won the game with 102 points.

Sam Mnguni was the individual winner of the day with 44 points.

The Betterball Stableford format was played on a sunny, yet slightly windy day, which didn’t deter the players from playing their best.

Players taking nearest the pin are: Dries Beukes at hole two, Brian Johnson at hole eight, Wikus Nel as hole 12 and Bruce Reynolds at hole 15.

Sam Mngunie and Johan Kruger scored 52 points, putting them in the lead, while Christo Nortje and Werner Roux took second place with 50 points.

In third place was Muzi Ngwenya and Tshepo Mtimunye with 46 on count out.

Bennie de Lange and Chris Erasmus came fourth with 46 points on count out.

After seven rounds the top two teams in each group will play in the semi-final and the winners of the semi-finals will compete against each other in the final.

The club members also played in the Betterball Stableford club competition on Saturday.

Sam and Johan were also crowned the winners with 52 points and Christo and Werner in second place with 50 points.

On Youth Day, the club will host a family golf day where father and son, mother and daughter, husband and wife, brother and brother and many more competitions will be played.
