WATCH: PGA Golf Simulator tournament in Springs

Simulator golf is highly competitive.

Two Springs residents competed in the PGA Simulator Golf tournament held at the Horse and Hound at the Paul Kruger Highway on Saturday.

Although Russell Tillie (40) and Anton Duvenhage (28) didn’t make it to the semi-finals, they still enjoyed the challenge.

Russell says in this game you get to know so many people at the tournaments.

Anton claims when he first saw the simulator, he was just watching others play, but soon built up the courage to give it a go.

“It is not as easy as it looks.

“You have to consider the wind, the different courses, choose your club, just as you would do on an outside golf course,” he says.

Most of these simulator golf players also play golf at different clubs.

“It is a heavy competitive and addictive sport,” says Anton.

Event organiser Tommie Cronjé, says the players have to concentrate on every move and still have to choose their clubs.

“The players also need to get to know the layouts of the courses,” he says.

The simulators are upgraded on a regular basis and the game consists of several golf courses around the world.

This tournament saw the players taking on the Sahaee Chinese golf course.

To select the 16 players for this tournament the highest points on several simulators all over Gauteng were considered over the last two months.

The event is held at different outlets once every eight months, but is currently only taking place in Gauteng.

“The focus of the game is on giving men an opportunity to enjoy a game of golf,” says Tommie.

He adds the host plays a huge role as well and he is very impressed with the tournament host Grant Reid.

During the playoffs Eugene Ralph from Kempton Park hit a hole-in-one, much to the enjoyment of the other players.

The overall scores were taken into consideration.

Adrian Gobetz won the R4 000 prize money with a record score of 50 004 points, with Anton Kitching from Garsfontein in second place with 49 208 points.

“There can only be one winner,” says Tommie.
