Old Boys’ play a tactical game

Springs Old Boys’ Soccer Club’s U-12s played against Benoni Spurs on Sunday.

This was a league game that saw both teams playing their hearts out until the end.

The match kicked off at 8.30 am and was a challenging exchange of skill and talent between the two teams.

“It is already almost the end of the first half and we have not scored,” says the team manager, Titi Nkosi, “So that should tell you how strong our opponents are.”

The second half commenced with a stronger-looking Old Boys’ formation, which led to Katlego ‘Socks’ Mmakola scoring the first goal of the morning, 17 minutes into the second half.

The boys came back with more energy showing off their dribbling skills, much to the delight of the audience and the team manager.

Shortly after, Benoni Spurs scored the equalizing goal, which left the overall all score at a 1-all draw.

The U-12’s coach, Ronnie Slava attributes the strong contention of the game to his team’s discipline and formation.

‘The tactical game is paying off for the team,” he says, “The defensive discipline is lethal, which is why we are always able to put up a good fight.”

“Win, lose, or draw, we always show grace on the field.”

Overall, the two teams displayed character and a love for “the beautiful game”, coupled with excellent mentorship and guidance from their coaches.

“The team’s character was the biggest quality of the day,” says Ronnie.
