Striders runners complete Comrades

Twenty-one athletes from Springs Striders completed the Comrades Marathon on Sunday.

Rhoda Steyn, club secretary, says they are very proud of the 12 men and nine woman, who qualified to compete in this race.

Thabo Thwala finished in 8:29;30 and Michael Tsholoba in 9:05;03.

Winnie Mbukwana was the first Striders woman to finish in 9:34;26.

Veteran athlete Petra Myburgh ran her 20th Comrades and finished in 11:14;53.

Three novices entered the race and did well, with Gerrie Du Toit finishing the race in 11:56;29.

The rest of the runners who finished are: Annetjie Nel 9:55;35; Wayne Kavirayan 9:57;00; Mziwakhe Crossby Maseko 10:21;18; Letshabo Pule 10:25;11; Eunese Beukes 10:37;17; Graham Handley 10:45;13; Karin Smith 10:49;35; John Thoma 10:52;14; Lizette Botha 10:57;32; Max Magagula 11:07;12; Monique Beukes 11:28;10; Carla Bruinette 11:28;10; Maritza Hartkopf 11:29;54; Phumlani Masondo 11:34;47; Zacharia Tshabalala 11:37;58 and Nico Laubscher 11:51;39

Werner Buys completed 19 Comrades races, but due to an injury he could not start his 2016 Comrades.

The club apologises for the inconvenience caused with the wrong information and wish him a speedy recovery.

“Number 20 is waiting for you,” she says.

The club’s Aches and Pains party will be held at the Pope John hall, on the corner of Cavendish Street and Queens Avenue, in Brakpan on June 11 at 6pm.
