Methodist church on a fund-raising mission

On Friday, the Selcourt Methodist Church hosted its annual fund-raiser at the Pollak Park Golf Club.

“The funds we raise go towards the general maintenance and upkeep of our church,” says Janice Wesson, of the Selcourt Methodist Church.

This is what enables the church to function optimally, allowing it to do the work required in order to tithe its 10% to non-profit organisations and charities around the area.

The fund-raiser involved the participation of 17 teams, who played four-ball games, with a tee-off time of 11 am.

“We opened entry to participate to the general public,” says Janice, “And some of the teams that participated were sponsored by private companies.

“Some people just stopped by and decided to join us as well.”

The event continued well into the evening and was followed by a social quiz evening, as well as a lucky draw, where the prize was a weekend away at an exclusive holiday resort.

“We also have an auction which we will have later,” says Janice, “And we are grateful to the many private companies who sponsored the prizes.”

June Davies, who is a member of the church’s trust committee, expressed her gratitude for the support and turn-out of the event.

“I am very happy about the turn-out,” says June, “We are also very happy that we are able to host pastors from Christ Community Church to come and join us as well.”

This is the second year that the church’s fund-raiser was hosted by the Pollak Park Golf Golf Club, which Janice says she is appreciative of.

“The service we have received has been phenomenal,” she says, “The management really goes out of its way to make us feel at home.”

We look forward to many more fundraisers at the club.”
