Ginger Day results

The monthly Ginger Golf Day was played at Pollak Park, on Saturday.

The threatened cold weather did not appear, fortunately, and all the players had a wonderful morning of golf.

Andrew Murray won the cup with 38 points on a count out, as well as nearest the pin, while Wayne van Kraayenburg came second with 38 points on a count out.

Bruce Gardner took a well deserved third place with 38 points on count out.

The longest day award was taken by Hendrie Schalkwyk, with 20 points.

“Convenor Colin O’ Brien was away so Ian Gould held the fort,” says Gardner.

History

Ginger Golf Day was originally called the Link Belts Trophy, and was started more than 35 years ago.

It later became known as the Van Dyk Trophy.

Ginger Campbell-Atkins then played in and took over the running of the golf day about 30 years ago.

The players at the time decided as Ginger had been running the golf day for a long period, the trophy should be called The Ginger Campbell-Atkins Trophy, and the name has stuck.
