Youth form Far East Junior Golf team
Junior golfers from Nigel Golf Club, Springs Country Club and Pollak Park Golf Club recently joined forces to form the Far East Junior Golf League team.
The Far East Rand team was asked to represent the Springs area in the junior league.
“We asked the juniors to have a practice round so we could select our team,” says Rachel Howard, Professional Golfers Association (PGA) pro.
Michael van der Walt and Tian Jansen van Rensburg represented Springs Country Club while Réno Geldenhuys, Clemens van der Berg and Anika van der Berg represented Pollak Park.
Due to the long weekend only five players were able to play.
Rachel says the practice round went well, with Anika, the only girl on the team, coming out tops, beating the boys.
The first league game will be played on May 15.
Johannes Geldenhuys, PGA pro from Springs Country Club, Christo Hattingh, PGA pro from Nigel and Howard are urging businesses or individuals to assist with sponsorships towards the growth of golf and development of the juniors.
“We will be working hard together to see growth and improvement in the game of golf from all race and ages in our area,” says Howard.
