Young Stars still at the top

The Eastern Springs Local Football (ESLF) teams played against Multiplayers Football Academy on Saturday, at Welgedacht stadium.

The first match of the day was the U-13B side, where the Young Stars led the way with their 9-0 win against Multiplayers.

The Young Stars were off to a strong start, with a 5-0 score reading by half-time.

The goalscorers were Ethen Mohammed and Edward Chidoti, who both scored hat-tricks, as well as Gift Nkogatse, Lebo Maleka, and Snekamva Phikithi, who scored one goal each.

One of the goalscorers, Edward Chidoti, gave a stellar performance, which led him to be named the man of the match by the end of the game.

“I am extremely proud of the boys, they did well,” says Young Stars’ coach, Tiaan Botha.

The U-13A team started strong and scored within the first few minutes of the game. Their score at half-time was already 2-1 against Multiplayers.

The final score read 4-1 to the Young Stars, who were led by the man of the match, Katlego Ntoagae.

The goalscorers, who each scored one goal for Young Stars, respectively, were, Snekamva Phikithi, Adrian O’Daniel, Katlego Ntoagae and Kabelo Ntoagae.

Xavi Mabinane scored a goal for Multiplayers within the first half of the game, much to the excitement of the crowd.

According to Tiaan, the U-13’s win keeps them at the top spot on the league table.

“My boys have won seven out of their eight games so far this year. We are looking forward to many more wins,” says Tiaan.

It was a tough game for the U-15 team as Multiplayers defended aggressively against the Young Stars, leaving the half-time score at a draw of zero.

It was not until much later in the second half that the Young Stars’ David Imana scored the goal that led to the Young Stars’ victory.

The final score was 1-0 to the Young Stars, making this their eighth win in a row ensuring they remain top of the league.

The last game of the day was the U-17s, who played a good game and ended the day with showstopping football.

By the end of the first half, the Young Stars were leading 2-1. Webster Theko and Ntokozo Ndimande were the two goalscorers.

Cheeseboy Mokoena sealed the victory for the Multiplayers by scoring a hat-trick goal, and leading his team to a 2-3 victory against Young Stars.

Man of the match, General Mabinane was very excited about the team’s victory.

“We did our best. I am very happy,” he says.

Not only was the tournament enjoyable for all who were present, but it also gave Multiplayers coach, Ramothakhi Maqabe a lot to smile about.

“It is great that we can develop young players from an early age and see them develop their skills and grow their talents,” he says.

The Young Stars will be playing against Siwelele Football Club on May 7 at Werda Primary School.

Kick-off will be at 11am.
