Springs rugby triumphs

Springs rugby teams did not disappoint their home spectators when they beat Kempton Park on Saturday at the Springs Rugby Club.

The first team played hard and within minutes of the game lock Shawn Swanepoel scored the first try for the team after a scrum in the corner.

Flanker Chopper Steynsburg delighted the crowd with his three tries.

Thys de Beer contributed again with another try.

Tries followed one after the other and was scored by Nico Furbey, Kazlo Holtzhausen and Johan Zondagh, who scored the final try.

Gerhard Jordaan was once again wearing his kicking boots and added to the final score of 57-14.

The second team won 28-12.

It was rugby at its best with smooth backline movements and on point front line players.

The u-21 team played an outstanding game and beat their opponents 67-3.

The half-time score was already 45-3.

The kick off, to announce the start of the second half, was soon followed with a try by Gallie de Lange pushing the score up to 50-3.

Flyhalf Jaco Grobler contributed with another try and his kicking boots changed the score to 57-3.

Bevan du Preez and Wimpy Albert each scored a try, while fullback David Woolls and wingman Gallie each scored two tries during the game.

André Grebelaar scored five tries with ease and adding to the scoreboard was Schalk O’Gallaghan with four tries winning the game 67-3.

Rudolf Cronje, club chairman, says the coaches are all proud of their teams.

Springs teams will play against North West University Vaal in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.
