Busy weekend for Striders runners

It was a busy weekend for athletes from Springs Striders Athletics Club who competed in two different races.

Twelve athletes completed the Om die Dam Marathon, a 21.1km and 50km race in Hartbeespoort, on Saturday, while 15 runners completed the Sarens Edenvale 21.1km and 42.2km race on Sunday.

Rhoda Steyn, club secretary, says they are proud of all the athletes who finished the two races. The first Strider home in the Om die Dam Marahon’s 21.1km race was Kobie Meyer who finished the race in 2.01:04.

Shortly after him Marco van der Linde crossed the finish line with a time of 2.07:23.

David Smith was the third Strider home in 2.26:29 with Gillian Preston three minutes later (2.29:25).

In the 50km race Jacques Smith was the first Strider to finish in the Men’s Open category in 4.57:30 while the first female Santie Kelsey, crossed the finished line in 5.22:27.

Johan Roos was the third Strider home in 5.27:57 followed by Yvonne MacNab in 5.32:22.

Annetjie Nel finished in 5.40:04, followed by Lizette Botha with 5.41:19.

Veteran Petra Myburgh clocked in at 5.56:41.

Job Tshwana finished the race in 7.14:46 and was the last Strider to cross the finish line.

Mziwakhe Maseko was the first Strider home in the Sarens Edenvale 21.1km race in 2.01:30, followed by Ignatius Molawa in 2.07:27.

The rest of the runners who finished are: Karl Herwig in 2.09:32, Candice Hillcoat in 2.10:01, Carol Wallace in 2.15:15, Valerie Geldenhuys in 2.26:39, Bernadette Teixeira in 2.29:42, Alison Herwig in 2.38:23 and Alta van der Walt in 2.47:53.

Winnie Mbukwana was the first Strider to finish in the 42.2km race in 3.51:02 followed by Wayne Kavirayan with 4.25:21.

The rest of the runners who finished are: Graham Handley in 4.35:03, Kim Maxwell in 4.57:12, Gerrie du Toit in 5.07:31 and Preggie Govender in 5.27:21.

The results of the Kosmos 3-in-1 Secunda marathon that took place last Wednesday (March 9), were not available at the time of going to print.
