Bigger class motorcycle awaits the NSF 100 champion

Chris Wright (9) is a Grade Four learner at Selcourt Primary School and is the Honda NSF 100 Series Cup long and short circuit and Blata Super Production short circuit champion of 2015.

“His points on the short circuit are the highest anyone has ever achieved in this class,” says his father, Chris senior.

The NSF 100 long and short circuit age groups are 10 to 16 years, but because Chris’ driving skills are excellent he was given special dispensation by Motorsport SA to compete in the older age groups.

He won competitions on his Honda NSF 100 and Blata 40cc motorcycles.

His excellent performances during the racing season between March and October, were challenging but of champion quality.

Chris senior says this form of sport introduces the younger riders to the exhilarating world of circuit motorcycle racing.

He is also his son’s manager, coach, mechanic and biggest fan.

“It is important that Chris gives me feedback on the performance of the bike to enable me to make the necessary changes,” he says

“Chris has been competing since he was six years old and has been dominating the championships ever since he started,” says his grandfather Louis Murray.

Chris will be competing on his 150cc next year and has been practising on the bigger bike for a long time.

His father says he was again given special dispensation by Motorsport SA, to ride in the 150cc class.

What Chris loves most while on the circuit is the speed and the curbs.

He looks forward to a training camp in December at Red Star circuit in Delmas.

At this camp the young riders will learn about sportmanship, riding techniques, fitness, diet and behaviour on and off the circuit.

Louis says when Chris comes second, he gets off his bike and congratulates the winner.

“That is true sportmanship,” he adds.

Although he is a champion, he is still just a boy who likes to ride on his mountain bike, and enjoys playing his electronic keyboard.
