Japan kancho comes to Springs

A five day Aiki-Sambo seminar was held from last Wednesday to Sunday.

Kancho Kenji Nakawaza from Japan, visited Springs for the second International Aiki-Sambo seminar in South Africa.

The seminar was held at the Springs at the Alien MMA Club and the Municipal Bowling Club in Geduld.

The seminar attracted many senseis such as Warren Wilson (Kubu-jitsu), Marco de Carvalho (Nin-jitsu), Drummond Doig (Ju-jitsu), Mannetjie van Rooyen (Karate), André Marais (Aiki-do), Cameron Doig (Kickboxing), Gordon Douglas (Karate), Otto Pretorius (Aiki-jitsu), Terence Teraine (Nogi-jitsu) from Springs, Suzette Teraine (Goshin-jitsu) from Springs and Jean Humphries (BJJ).

A total of 30 students attended the seminar.

Kancho Kenji Nakawaza‘s invitation was conducted by the Tenchi Dojo, arranged by Aiki-Sambo SA, organised by Aiki-Jitsu SA and hosted by the Japanese Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (JMMASA).

Aiki-Sambo, is a combination of Japanese Aikido and Russian Sambo.

It is a unique method of self-defence that has effective blocking techniques against striking attack.

Practical Atemi techniques for hands and feet, joint locks, pins, throws, takedowns, grappling, and submission techniques are also included.

This art offers effectiveness, balance, cognisance of anatomy and physical mechanics.

Senseis Gordon and Otto were awarded brown belt and senseis Terence and Suzette were promoted to black belt.

Kancho Kenji trained in Yoshinkan Aikido, directly under Hanshi Terada (10th Dan) and Amos Parker (9th Dan).
