SOB opens cricket season

Springs Old Boys (SOB) cricket teams are well prepared for the new cricket season.

The u-14 Super League team won the toss and decided to bat first against Kempton Park on Saturday.

Kyle Meiring’s opening bat scored 104 runs not out, with Neill Joubert on 39 not out, leaving SOB scoring 213 runs in 30 overs.

Lionel Joubert, club chairman, says Mcdonald Marupara’s fantastic bowling in three overs for nine runs and one wicket, Keagan Lynskey’s three overs for four runs and two wickets and good bowling by the rest of the bowlers ensured Kempton Park was bowled out for 142 runs. The u-14 SOB team won the game by 70 runs.

The Colts team played against United SOB and batted first.

They scored 204 runs with Kyle Dabner scoring 40 runs and Rickus Neethling 30 runs.

With Ferdi Delport’s brilliant bowling performance in four overs taking five wickets for nine runs, United was bowled out for 109 runs. The Colts team won by 95 runs.

The SOB Premier side played against Duduza in a low scoring match.

SOB scored 140 runs and came very close in defending this total with excellent bowling by Franco Marais with six overs, two maidens, 11 runs and two wickets. Zandre Zigmund had eight overs one maiden, 40 runs and four wickets.

In the end SOB lost by two wickets. Lionel says the premier side is a young team with a lot of heart and excellent commitment in the field.
