Riders brave muddy track

The Transvaal Galvanisers Mountain Bike (MTB) Race took place in Dalpark Extension One, Brakpan, on Sunday.

The MTB race took place on Sunday in Dalpark Extension One in Brakpan. Bike riders from across Ekurhuleni came to take part in either the 50km, 35km or 10km race. The muddy conditions did not deter these riders.

There was a 50km race for the more serious cyclists, a 35km race and a 10km race for fun and less advanced cyclists.

The race was held to raise funds for the Apricot Tree School for children with special needs.

It turned out to be a really great day, and despite the muddy conditions from the previous day’s rain, the weather held out for the rest of the day.

Apricot Tree was at the event and catered the food, coffee and cold drinks.

A cycling company was on hand to assist with anything that went wrong with the participants’ bicycles.

The time-keeping was done by RaceTime and the results can be found on their website at www.racetime.co.za.

Participants and spectators alike were full of smiles fun when a cyclist passed the finish line.

The overall winners of the 50km race are:

First place – Bertus Odendaal (30) with one hour and 26 minutes.
Second place – Reece Hughes (21) with one hour and 32 minutes.
Third place – Micheal Chumbley (37) with one hour and 35 minutes.

The overall winners for the 35km race are:

First place – Ryan Shebab (16) with one hour and 27 minutes.
Second place – Mongezi Ngwenya (34) with one hour and 34 minutes.
Third place – Raymond van Deventer (39) with one hour and 36 minutes.

The overall winners for the 10km race are:

First place – Irvin Human
Second place – Thinus Sols
Third place – Taigen Lindeque

Marius van Lill from Springs took part in the MTB race in Dalpark Extension One in Brakpan on Sunday. Despite the wet and cold conditions, making the track muddy and harder to navigate, Marius enjoyed the ride. He did the 35km race in one hour and 55 minutes.
