Young horse riders gallop to the finals

Two Selcourt Primary School learners have made it through to the finals of the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) championships.

Grade seven learner Shayla Dixon (13) and grade five learner Tristan Williams (11) are riders for Winstead Stables in Grootvaly.

Tristan has received certificates for dressage, showjumping and cross country.

He will also be taking part in the eventing nationals.

Shayla has received a certificate for showjumping and was Victor Ludorum for the fourth SANESA qualifier round in July.

“We had a very successfully SANESA (Interschools) series with all the Winstead Riders this year, especially the Selcourt Primary School learners,” says their trainer, Kirsten Winn.

She adds Shayla also received her SANESA Ekurhuleni colours for both classes she competed in – the 70cm competition and ideal time.

With the points that both Shayla and Tristan accumulated throughout the four qualifiers, Selcourt Primary School was awarded first place for Section H (school teams with two to four riders per school) with Tristan being the highest achiever.
