Springs beats Benoni Lake

Springs golfers proved that they were above par when they beat the Benoni Lake Club 4-0 in the Ekurhuleni Senior Handicap League on Saturday.

Golfers who compete in this eight round handicap league are over 50 years of age and play in two groups of eight teams.

The eight players from each club play against golfers from other Ekurhuleni clubs.

Each team in each group play against each other and the winner of each group will play in the final to determine the league winner.

During the sixth round Frans Molefe, Nelson Mphatse, Chris Ngwenya and Simon Msiza played at home.

They beat the Benoni Lake golfers 2-0.

The other group Johan Kruger, Connie Wiid, Malcolm Pieterse and Gagi Gagiona played away at Benoni Lake Club and also won with 2-0.

Club captain Bennie de Lange says the four points allow the club to move up one position on the log.

It is not sure which position Springs will move to as the results were only sent to the Ekurhuleni Golf Union on Monday.

Other local golfers played in the club’s Betterball Knock-out competition on Saturday.

Wouter Beukes and Hendry Stokes won the competition with 46 points.

The couple Deon and Tersia Beck came second with 45 points and in third place was Koos Erasmus and Frans du Toit with 44 points.

The Super 16 Golf Tournament will be hosted at the club on Saturday, August 1 and on August 15 and 16 the Winter Championships will be played.
