Cycle for a good cause

The Transvaal Galvanisers Mountain Bike Race will take place on September 6.

The event will consist of a 50km, a 35km and a 10km route, and will take place at the Van Dyk Dam in Dalpark Extension One, Brakpan (opposite Carnival City).

An exciting aspect of the race is a floating bridge on the dam.

Non-licensed riders need to purchase a Cycling South Africa day license for the 50km and 35km distances.

The event will take place regardless of weather conditions and race briefing will take place at the start of the race.

Event organiser Athol Davies says registration will be between 6am and 7.30am, and the registration fee is non-refundable.

The first race starts at 8am.

The proceeds will go to the Apricot Tree School for Stimulation and Development, in Benoni, which caters for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Athol says cyclists must wear helmets and the ‘no helmet, no ride’ rule will apply.

The first 100 entrants will receive a T-shirt.
