Frith beat River Bite race

Springs resident Frith Cooper finished the 18km Chili Bite river race from Meyerton to Three Rivers in two hours and 21 minutes, recently.

She was the winner in the single Masters age category and the second woman to finish the race.

Frith enjoyed the experiences on the river, while she gained knowledge and skills while participating in local river races to strengthen her confidence.

All the paddlers have to participate in a minimum number of races in order to qualify for A grade status.

The first A grade novice friendly river race takes place in October, on the Fish River, in Cradock.

Frith is a member of the East Rand Kayak Club, based at Homestead Dam, in Benoni.

Having completed a few river races in a double to gain confidence, she is very satisfied with her progress on rivers and was confident enough to take on the winter challenge in a single canoe, successfully.
