Stealers lose, but are more confident

Springs Stealers baseball team faced Boksburg Cardinals at the Boksburg Stadium where the home team elected to take to field first.

At bat, Stealers managed to get one run in before three batsman were dismissed.

Francois McGregor (captain) started the pitching and the Cardinals managed to get one run in before they were dismissed with two strike-outs and an infield out at first base.

In the second and third frame, Stealers could not add any runs to their total, whereas Cardinals managed to add another four.

Good catches in the field had the Stealers back in the batting box.

Stealers managed to add three runs off a huge hit by Kenneth Fisher, bringing home Jules Tancrel, Juan du Plessis and Julius van Biljon.

Cardinals managed to add one run in the fourth frame, bringing the score to 6-4.

Outs were made with good catches in the outfield by Julius van Biljon and Armand Venter, and a brilliant pick-off to Leon Tancrel on third base.

In the fifth frame, Stealers scored another two runs and Cardinals replied with three of their own.

Pitching duties for the Cardinals then changed to Garrett Miller who is a former Stealers player.

In the last two frames, Stealers could only add one run to their six and Cardinals finished up with 11 runs in total.

A great catch was made by Marko Greyvenstein in the outfield who was playing his first game.

“Stealers lost 11 -7, but from management’s side, we are pleased to see that the guys are looking more confident on the field,” says Francois.

“Cardinals has always been tough competition with brilliant players and we are still working hard with the guys at training and expecting better results soon.”
