Combat Zone kickboxers are Galaxy stars

More medals for local kick boxing club.

Students from Combat Zone Kickboxing Club recently competed in the Galaxy Kickboxing Challenge held at the Indoor Sports Centre in Kempton Park.

The event was hosted by the International Sport Fighting Organisation.

The 22 students are from the Springs, Eloff and Nigel clubs, and are instructed by senseis Wessel Marais and his son Ivan.

The age of the fighters vary between five and 45 years, and they competed in the junior, senior and veteran events consisting of semi and light contact, weight and belt divisions.

A team of young fighters accompanied by Ivan also competed in the tag team fun event.

Ivan says it was their first competition and they did extremely well.

The senseis are proud of their fighters, who brought home 39 medals, and says they performed extremely well.

The students returned to Springs as proud medal winners who sustained only minor injuries during the challenge.

Wessel is eager to enter 30 of his students in the next up-coming competition.

This sensei will compete in the Destiny Championships held in Cape Town in October.

Students practice Monday and Wednesday between 6.30pm and 8pm.

Anyone interested in joining the club can call Wessel on 071 325 6738.
