Stealers play a hard game

The Springs Stealers played their first baseball match of the season against Japan Express on Sunday at the Boksburg Stadium.

Springs Stealers took the field first with Geoffrey Merrifield on the pitching mound, pitching to Jules Tancrel.

The Japan Express team managed to get four runs due to small fielding errors made by the Stealers.

Stealers then went in to bat, where Francois McGregor managed to score a home run thanks to good batting from Armand Venter.

With the first run on the board, the Stealers team had three batsman dismissed and had to get back on the field.

Stealers managed to keep the errors to a minimum and got three outs with Japan Express bringing in another four runs.

Stealers only managed to gain one run in their next batting innings and took to the field with Kenneth Fisher on the pitching mound.

Fielding errors allowed Japan Express to extend their lead to 18 – 2.

Stealers then came back firing with the bat and managed to get in another six runs.

Julius van Biljon had a massive two base hit that accounted for two of the six runs.

Stealers then took the field again, but fielding errors cost them a few runs.

At bat, they did not score any runs.

Japan Express then went in to bat for the last time and secured their final runs.

Stealers had no answer for that and went down in the end at 38-8.

The Springs Stealers consists of five new players who are still learning the rules and the game plays of baseball.

“From the coaching side we accept the fact that the first few games will be the worst, but we are positive that we will be competitive in the near future,” says Francois McGregor, one of the coaches of the team.
