Canoeist preparing for Dusi

Springsite's can't wait for his next challenge.

Springs resident Herman Timmerman is getting ready for the Dusi canoe marathon, the world renowned canoe endurance race.

He took part in the Two Day Klip race last weekend covering 72kms to finish the race at the Vaal River junction in Three Rivers.

Herman is a member of the East Rand Kayak based at Homestead dam, who enjoys the exciting adventurous challenges of river racing and preparing for the worlds toughest endurance canoeing event.

Herman teamed up with Deon Gerber from Kempton Park to prepare for the Dusi event.

The pair successfully completed the two day challenge finishing in a time of six hours 14 minutes as the seventh double finishers.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the extreme challenge,” says Herman.

With just over two weeks to go to Dusi, these two paddlers will be tapering down their extensive training programs, building energy reserves and resting aching tired muscles while remaining supple with light regular exercise and paddling sessions.

The Dusi challenge will take place between February 19 and 21, covering 120kms from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, through the Valley of 1 000 hills.
