Cricket teams play despite the rain

Here are the results.

Although the rain of the past weekend rained out some cricket matches, some teams of Springs Old Boys’ (SOB) Cricket Club did manage to play.

The results are:

Seniors:

Saturday:

The first league played against Kempton Park, where SOB scored 205 runs.

Kempton Park could not take the field due to rain and the game was ended.

Sunday league results:

The Premier league side ran into last year’s Easterns league winners, Benoni Northerns.

SOB was sent in to bat, with top scorers Jarred James who scored 34 runs and Jose van den Berg (20 runs).

SOB’s team was bowled out for 92 runs and Benoni Northern only losing 2 wickets before hitting the winning runs.

Prem Reserve team:

In a nail-biting match that went down to the last ball between SOB Prem reserve side and Duduza, SOB walked away with the win.

Craig Marapara (44 runs, catches 3 balls and picking up 2 wickets for 16 runs) was leading from the front.

Stephan van Heerden (24 not out), contributed with the bat.

Johan Meyer picked up 3 wickets for 27 runs and Glenn Madden 2 wickets for 45 runs.

The captain, Johan Meyer, praised the team for being excellent in the field and that contributed to the win.

Director’s team:

SOB played against Kempton Park SOB where they scored 284 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs.

Other scorers were Abdul Hanslod (72 runs), Waqas Abdulhameed (44) and Aslam Patel (44). Two bowlers who were destructive with the ball, bowling Kempton Park out for 44 runs in 16 overs were Abdul Hanslod (8 overs 4 wickets for 24 runs) and Ayubkhan Pathan (8 overs 5 wickets for 17 runs).

Colts team:

SOB won with eight wickets against United Cricket Club.

United was bowled out for 65 runs.

Top SOB players, Michael van der Walt (5 overs, 2 maidens, 3 runs for 3 wickets) and Rickus Neethling (5 overs 1 maiden 11 runs for 3 wickets) were destructive with their bowling and did not give United any opportunity to score runs.

Rickus Neethling scored 17 runs not out.

Junior Results

U/8: Match was rained out after the third over.

U/10 Super: Won by 11 runs against Boksburg.

The best players were Raymond van Blerk (bowled 5 overs 2 wickets for 26 runs), Mitchell Naude (3 overs 2 wickets for 22 runs), Duhan du Plessis (5 overs 1 wicket for 9 runs) and Raymond van Blerk scored 29 runs and Keanu Coetzee, 21 runs.

U/12 Super won with 7 wickets against Boksburg.

The match started off with good bowling from the bowlers.

Nathan Steyn got 3 overs 1 maiden 9 runs for 1 wicket; Luhumo Malebana, 3 overs 12 runs for 1 wicket; Neill Joubert, 3 overs 8 runs for 2 wickets and Echardt Lewis, 3 overs 13 runs for 1 wicket.

This win was set up by the two opening batsmen Neill Joubert (58 runs) and Nathan Steyn (22) who had an opening partnership of 74 runs, making it easy for the team to chase down the 126 runs for a win.

U/14 Super: The match was rained out before a ball was bowled.
