Well done Springs Wheelers

Several cyclists from Springs Wheelers Cycling Club took part in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on Sunday.

This year the organisers changed the route to Riversands Commercial Park in Fourways.

Ray Roodt, chairman of the club, says the last 10km was testy but he enjoyed the new challenge.

The club members all agreed the weather was perfect after a rather dodgy week leading up to the race.

Brad Edwards was the first Wheeler in with a time of 2:34.

Ray says it is excellent, taking into consideration the winning time was 2:21.

Two minutes behind Brad, Reece Hughes arrived (2:36).

The rest of the Wheelers finished as follows:

Johan Strydom (2:47), Hennie Becker (2:47), Matthew Kitching (2:48), Henk Smith (2:52), Christo Groenewald (3:06), Kevin Lawrence (3:11), Rudy Bosch (3:12) and Raymond van Deventer (3:12), who then did another lap.

Mark Murray (3:22), Ken Koopman (3:23), Derek and Donne Edwards, husband and wife on a tandem (3:27), Matthew and Wyatt Carlson, father and son on a tandem (3:58), Adele Lawrence (4:26), Annamarie Whiteman (4:34) and the 12-year-old first timer Matthew Bourbon (4:56).

Team Lemondrop towing the trailer was Dave Surrall, Clement Westley, Mark Pullen, Monique Bird, Ray Roodt, Angy Schutte and Kerryn Roodt (4:59).

Lappies Labuschagne (5:00), Channille Fourie (5:03), Grant Watson (5:23), Adele van Huyssteen (5:29), Sonea van Deventer (6:02) and James Tyler (6:22).

Ray says he suspects the traffic congestion at the start compromised a lot of riders’ start and ride times, but he is proud of all the Wheelers who took part.
