The start of the cricket season at Springs Old Boys (SOB) kicked off on Saturday with good results from the top teams, setting a good example for the rest of the teams.

SOB’s Premium side won by 114 runs against Actonville cricket club.

They scored 243 runs, with Mark Joubert scoring 78 runs on debut.

He received good support from senior player Jose van den Berg, scoring 76 runs.

The SOB team bowled Actonville out for 129 runs.

Zandre Siegmund had the figures of 6 overs and 4 wickets for 21 runs.

Jonathan Woolley had 7 overs and 2 wickets for 21 runs.

In the SOB first league the Saturday side played against Kempton Park, winning by 17 runs.

SOB scored 196 runs and Kempton Park scored 179 runs.

Captain Riaan van der Merwe led by example, scoring 43 runs and bowling 5 overs 3 wickets for 28 runs.

The top batsman was Morné Mulder with 67 runs.

The Colts-team played against Kempton Park on Sunday, scoring 184 runs and bowling Kempton park out for 120 runs.

Gustav van Heerden scored 41 runs not out, with Kyle Dabner scoring 36 runs.

The bowlers who picked up the wickets were Ruan Oosthuizen with 4 overs 3 wickets for 15 runs, Rickus Mostert with 3 overs 1 wicket for 5 runs and Keagan Meiring 2 overs 2 wickets for 13 runs.

The Captain Branden Little played a captain’s innings by top scoring with 68 runs as well as bowling 2 overs and 3 wickets for 12 runs.
