Selcourt resident travelling the world for SA BMX team

Godfrey Buziba, a Selcourt resident, rides for the South African Bicycle Motorcross (BMX) Team.

He started BMX as a hobby in 2007, but has made it his full-time career in 2009 training twice a day from Monday to Saturday and does races on Sundays.

Last year Godfrey went to Manchester for the UCI BMX Supercross world cup, but did not advance further.

In August this year he made it all the way to the quarter finals when he visited Rotterdam in Holland for the World Championship BMX along with 200 other riders in his category.

Godfrey built his own track in Selcourt called the “Dirt Compound” where he trains young men to become better BMX riders.

He likes to coach younger, less experienced riders and says, “When I retire, I want to coach for a living.”

His personal coach is Jonnathan Chislett, who is the SA National BMX coach.

In the future, Godfrey looks to race some of the European Championship rounds and wants do to more travelling.

Godfrey is racing the last nationals on October 26 in Durban.
