Stealers victorious

Springs Stealers faced off against the Pirates on Sunday.

Stealers took the field first with Geoffrey Merrifield on the mound to pitch.

Pirates managed two runs off two walks and two hits before Stealers got the required three outs with two strikeouts and a ground-out.

On the mound for Pirates, veteran Kevin Cronin, managed to keep Stealers at only four runs, however, these included a home run, crushed deep by Chris Stone. Score now 4–2 to Stealers.

The second innings didn’t start so well for Stealers as Pirates scored three more runs to take back the lead, 5–4.

Stealers got out of the innings with a double play and a great line drive catch by Leon Tancrel.

Stealers came out fired up and scored six runs off seven hits which included a mammoth home run launched out the field by Leon.

Stealers now in the lead 10–5.

Geoffrey closed the scoring of Pirates down completely with two strikeouts and a pickoff, which caught a runner napping, and gave the bat back to Stealers.

Pirates turned over pitching responsibility to Trevor Thorogood who only allowed Stealers to extend their lead by a further two runs off one walk, two fielding errors and a hit.

Scoring two more runs, the Stealers was still in the lead with 12-5.

Chris Stone threw the fourth innings for Stealers and quickly sent Pirates back into the field with a catch and a double play started by Chris snatching a ball that attempted to sail past his ear.

The fifth innings was very uneventful for both sides as Pirates didn’t score and Stealers only scrapped in one more run.

Pirates once more being unable to score in the sixth as time began to run out.

Stealers batting in the bottom of the sixth pushed the run difference to 18–5, scoring three off four hits.

With only a few minutes on the clock Pirates started their last batting and Stealers gave the ball over to Francios McGregor to close.

With two strikeout and one ground-out Pirates were retired without getting any runner on base.

Stealers win 18–5.
