Stealers back in action

Baseball season is upon us and Springs Stealers are back in action

They recently played against Boksburg Cardinals and narrowly lost, 17-18.

This past weekend Stealers were back to true form and resoundingly defeated Edenvale Giants, 23-4.

With Giants having home team advantage, Stealers had to open with the bat.

The starting pitcher for Giants, Tristan Fichard, struggled with his control and allowed Stealers six runs.

His father, Ted Fichard took over pitching responsibility and Giants fielders turned a double to send Stealers into the field. With Richard Williams on the mound for the first time, the first pitch of the innings was lofted straight to David Williams at right field for a great catch that would set the tone for the rest of the game.

The Giants batters knocked in two runs but two strikeouts later, Stealers were back with the bat.

They batted through the entire line-up and brought their tally up to 10.

Giants had no answer as their next three hitters were retired cleanly and the third innings would also go by without much ado as Stealers extended their lead to 12-2.

Stealers fielders Jules and Leon Tancrel both made great plays that smothered all Giants’ hope for runs.

Stealers continued their great form into the fourth innings and hit all over the place scoring another five runs making their lead 17-2.

Giants slipped in two runs in answer before two great catches from centre fielder Gareth Henning ended the innings.

Stealers had no intention of slowing down and scored another six runs in the fifth innings sending Giants in to bat needing three runs to continue playing.

Stealers fielders still showed no sign of letting up as an awesome double play from Jules, Juan du Plessis and Chris Stone ended the game.

There are no games scheduled until the June 22, where Stealers are to face South Stars at home, first pitch at 10am.
