Violet at her best

This is the first year she has played jukskei and says she will continue to play next year.

“Our coach Ria Cronje introduced me to jukskei and although I found it to be boring at first, I thoroughly enjoy myself now,” says Violet.

She is very proud to be part of a winning team as both of the school’s jukskei teams recently won the School Championships.

Violet took part in the cross country last year, but when she joined the team this year, it took up too much of her time to take part in any other sport.

This Dersley resident feels it is not too difficult to play and likes the fact that everyone can play the game, including the disabled.

There are also no age limitations to the sport and young and old can play.

Violet says she would like to encourage everyone to try it out and they will soon be astonished at what this game is really about.

Violet adds her parents support her all the way and do watch her play when possible.

She wants to study medical science after she finishes matric in 2014 and is not sure whether she will be able to still play jukskei, but will definitely play when the opportunity arises.

“Caster Samenya is my role model. She is very talented and I look up to her because of her achievements,” says Violet.

The boy’s and girl’s school teams are going to play in Kroonstad from Monday to Saturday to take part in the SA Junior Championships.
