Despite having players Ryan Hynes out on a two match suspension for a fighting incident in a previous league match, Alex Arvanitis injured and Chad Ferguson sick.
Michael John Reyneke scored his 22nd goal of the season for the Springs club and is also top goal scorer in the season.
Springs Old Boys had a strong start to the match, passing the ball down field keeping pressure on the opposition.
Early on in the seventh minute, Old Boys scored with a sneaky goal by Brad Palmer past the right of the Dinwiddie goal keeper. Leading 1-0 early, Springs Old Boys spent most of the half attacking in Dinwiddie’s half.
This to their benefit as Michael John Reyneke scored once again in the 17th minute.
By the beginning of a second half both teams remained strong and on the offensive, however Dinwiddie failed to penetrate the Old Boys defence.
The sun towards the late afternoon became a problem for Old Boys playing up field in the second half.
An hour into the match Michael John Reyneke scored his 22nd goal of the season in 11 games, this was thanks to good passing through the field and shooting outside the penalty box.
Toward the end of the match, Springs Old Boys lost control of the match slightly, when Dinwiddie pulled on back for the visitors.
While the sun began to set, Old Boys scored their fourth goal, a cracker by Calvin van Aarde.
Springs Old Boys kept their defence in the dying minutes of the match, but committed a foul, resulting in a penalty for Dinwiddie. Springs Old Boys goalkeeper Lance Hayden could not stop the ball directed to the corner of the net.
Both teams gave it their all at the end of the match, trying to keep possession or attack when they could.
The match ended Springs Old Boys beating the Dinwiddie Stars of Alberton at home, 4-2.
With their 11th win of the season, Springs Old Boys seek to retain their top of the log status with seven games to still play.
Springs Old Boys Senior’s next match is on the June 29 against Luso Africa at Hattingh Park.
