Olympian Athletics

Despite the fact that Olympia Park School lacks proper facilities to train for athletics, coaches and athletes alike worked very hard to prepare for the athletic season

The season started off with a friendly meeting in Roodepoort.

On February 20 the principal, vice principal, 185 athletes and 28 staff members left for Roodepark School where they participated against three top LSEN schools.

Olympia’s athletes gave it their all and obtained 9 first places, 12 second places and 16 third places.
The next event was the Inter-East Rand at Boksburg Stadium. Since Olympia Park School hosted the event this year, it was the most important event of the season.
On February 26 there was a very festive but competitive atmosphere at Boksburg Stadium.  Six schools participated in this event: Olympia Park School, Elandspark, Belvedere, Krugerlaan, Kempton Panorama and Kwa Thema Skills School.  All athletes were determined to give their best performance everand a few records were shattered.
Olympia Park’s athletes outdid themselves.  The end results were much better than in past years.  Fifteen of their athletes were invited to participate at the Prestige Athletics Meeting (Gauteng Provincial LSEN Multi Disability Meeting) at Ruimsig Stadium on March 5 and 6. Only the best of the best of athletes could participate at this event.
Olympia’s athletes performed very well at the Prestige Athletics Meeting and the following athletes received medals:
•    Antinet Makaleng     (Silver – 200m)
