We pay, give us what we pay for

Eighty per cent of the taxis at the rank are what we call in seSotho Dikorokoro, which translates Skedonk (an old battered motor vehicle).

Have you ever been in a situation whereby you need transport to take you from point A to point B and the only transport you can use is a taxi because you don’t own a car or know anyone who does?

Even if you may know someone with a car but you don’t wish to inconvenience them as they are travelling a different route.

Well, this is something I go through daily to get to and from work.

Say you always travel by taxi around Springs, have you taken your time to look at the taxis at the rank?

Well, let me tell you something about those taxis.

Imagine being forced to travel in a skedonk by a queue marshal because that’s what they do; they force you to use those taxis.

At some times those taxis get to be overloaded, sometimes you get to be forced to sit on a seat which you find extremely uncomfortable.

Do you know what’s funny about this whole situation?

The fact that these taxis are permitted to be on the road and you get to ask yourself, how on earth is that even possible?

With some taxis you do not need an expert to tell you that they are not roadworthy; you can just see that they are not.

So who permits such vehicles?

These are the vehicles which you will see on the road when looking down while inside it, people’s clothes have been torn by seats in these taxis or you get rained on (if it’s raining) while inside a taxi.

What’s the use of paying a certain fee for going from point A to point B if you are not going to be happy?

I mean the taxi industry is one of the major GDP contributors in South Africa and the only way that can be possible is by us using them to travel, so surely we should get great service.

Dear taxi owners, taxi drivers and queue marshals, please take us serious.

We know you need to make money by making profits but we also need great service.
