No time for jealousy, just teamwork

You congratulate them, take pride and joy from their achievements and work on yourself.

This past weekend and Monday saw two great things happen.

The first is that Tiger Woods scored his first victory in more than five years on Sunday by completing a two-shot win at the Tour Championship to crown a fairy tale comeback after a near two-year absence.

The 42-year-old, 14-time major winner carded a one-over-par 71 at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Course to claim his 80th PGA Tour title of his glittering career.

This was a fantastic achievement for a man that people said was done.

At one point, things were so bad for Woods, that porn star Mia Khalifa had the audacity to tell him to retire with some dignity.

Like really?

Guess who is having the last laugh now?

The second great thing was that on Monday night, Luka Modric, ended Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s decade-long domination of football’s individual awards by being crowned Fifa’s best player of the year.

The Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder starred for both club and country as Madrid won a third straight Champions League, and he inspired Croatia to reach the World Cup final for the first time.

He beat Juventus’s Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah to the prize.

This achievement by these two exceptional sportsmen brought it home that things happen when it is their time.

Sure, the bad part sucks and when you’re going through that rough patch, it seems unending.

Also, during the time when you’re down in the dumps, there are other people who are on top of the world. How do you deal with that?

Well, certainly by not comparing yourself to them or by being jealous.

No.

You congratulate them, take pride and joy from their achievements and work on yourself.

Putting them down and beating yourself up about it won’t help you get out of the slump any faster.

The fact is, things will happen for when you’re ready for them and when it’s their time.

If whatever you want to happen, never does, make peace with it.

Maybe it was never really meant for you.

Not everyone is meant to have the starring role.

Some are the backroom staff, some are the caddy, some are the kit manager, but let me tell you, those people are just as important as the star of the team.

Without them, things wouldn’t go smoothly.

By doing your job well, you allow other team members to do their job well because they are at ease knowing they can depend on you.

I’m not saying it’s easy sacrificing yourself for the greater good, but when you really think about it, there have been many people in your own life who have sacrificed themselves or gone without one thing so you could have it.

These are people you may or may not know.

That’s part of the beauty of being human and generally being a good person.

Not everything is about you or for you, the sooner you make peace with that the better your life will be.

My point is, take pride in what you do, do it to the best of your ability and let the pieces fall where they may.
