Your opinion doesn’t phase me

We all have our own opinions but that doesn't excuse rudeness.

“Attack” may be a strong word for what transpired last week, but it certainly describes how I felt in those moments.

Many of you probably heard of or read the article I recently wrote regarding a homosexual couple.

I will not go into detail about the article. It is available on our website, but I will address the issue which arose from said article.

I received quite a few calls from disgruntled readers, but one specific phone call threw me for a loop.

To this man, I don’t know who you are or what your name is, what you do or where you’re from, but what I do know is that you need some serious lessons in respect, no matter on what level your rage is or whatever else may have driven you to speak in the manner you did.

First of all, I am a journalist and writing articles is what I do, regardless of who or what the subject is.

You, sir, are not judge, jury nor executioner.

Your attack on me as a person, not as a journalist, was hateful, despicable and completely uncalled for.

Yes, every single person has an opinion of their own and can voice how they feel about a situation. I get that.

But you do not have the right to verbally assault anyone on a personal basis and then hide behind Christianity and the Bible.

Not that it is any of your business, but I am a Christian and, not that I care what you think (at all), I believe in the Bible.

But, that being said, I don’t whip out the holy book and use it as a weapon to inflict damage on or to a person.

Reading the comments about the above-mentioned article, I was a little shocked by what some people said.

I have absolutely nothing against homosexual people and truly find them a joy to be around and talk to.

I believe it is the individual’s decision who they are, like with every one of us.

We all carry the responsibility of making our own choices and why the heck should anyone care what someone does with their life?

If you made a decision that you think is best for you and your well-being, how would you feel when some random person steps into your life and tells you that you are wrong and you should follow their way of thinking?

Tell me, how many of us who claim to be Christians do not adhere to every single thing stated in the Bible?

If you smoke, or swear, or have tattoos, or have sex before marriage or any number of other things I won’t be able to name, does this make you less of a Christian and your soul will go to hell or wherever?

Please.

But when it comes to cases of homosexuality, the Bible gets whipped out and verses get thrown around like everyone is a prophet, because “it’s wrong to be gay”.

If you feel like that, then it’s fine.

But then, please remember to use this same treatment with people who curse, use drugs, smoke, have sex before being wed, people who have road rage and show rather graphic sign language (which I believe isn’t a very Christian-y thing to do).

In today’s day and age, professionalism is key and discrimination of any kind can land you in trouble.

Do not attack someone for doing their job, do not attack anyone. Period.

Have a happy life, as long as you are content with your own chosen path.

We are all people and we all make choices, leave be the ones who make choices you don’t like, it’s not your life.

I’m a very nice person and my views don’t change anything about that fact, I will gladly help anyone where I can. #Neverjudge
