Winter is a wonderful time to catch up on all the DVDs you hoped to watch in summer but never seemed to get around to.
It’s a time for hot chocolate, a fluffy blanket and a really great movie – be it the latest thriller, ‘chick flick’ or comedy.
However, in recent years I found the list of good DVDs on offer to be a short one indeed.
Not so this winter.
I have been pleasantly surprised by some of the wonderful films released in recent months and so, instead of boring you with yet another rant about poor service, I’m offering you a service of a different kind.
This is my list of movies you can put on your list for the rest of the cold, lazy Sunday afternoons we have stretching in front of us before the sunny summer days are back.
The Zookeeper’s wife
Based on a true story set in Poland in 1939, this film tells the tale of Antonina Zabinski and her husband Dr Jan Zabinski, who ran the Warsaw Zoo.
When the war breaks out and German soldiers shoot many of the animals for food, Antonia finds a different way to use the zoo.
The pair are said to have saved over 300 people from the Warsaw Ghetto during the war.

Miss Sloane
